The snow is deep and beautiful and most importantly untouched. We have featured Michigan’s U.P. many times over the years in all of its wonderful seasons, but none is more beautiful and serene than winter. We did our first show in Schoolcraft County over 20 years ago and almost nothing has changed. It is still a Great Getaway for an outdoor adventure. More snow! Less people! This trip would have everything the winter enthusiast searches for as we go snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Its cold, its white and its soooo inviting. Let’s get started!

Snowshoeing at Pine Marten Run

Pine Marten run is a 26 mile system of hiking and horseback riding trails located in the Ironjaw Semiprivate Area. Parking areas are available at each trailhead. And Adirondack shelters, with fire rings, have been constructed at Rim Lake, Rumble Lake and along the Indian River. Water and toilet facilities are available at the C.R. 440 trailhead, while the others only have toilet facilities.

Snowmobiling

»we rode snowmobile trails from Indian Lake State Park north to Shingleton stopping at Jack Pine Lodge ( GPS: N46 Degrees 09,058' W 086 Degrees 23,716' )

With an average of 165 inches of snowfall, Schoolcraft Country is a winter paradise for outdoor enthusiasts - and especially snowmobilers, since there are nearly 400 miles of groomed trails. These trails are part of more than 2.500 miles of well marked and well-maintained pathways throughout the Upper Peninsula.

Snowshoeing at Schoolcraft County Environmental Lab

The Environmental Lab's purpose is for the environmental education of youths.  The property is located within three miles of most of the county's schools and contains a wide variety of flora, fauna, topography, soils and stages of succession.  Three state and federal grants, supported with local donations to match have allowed the project to develop and be successful.

Cross-Country Skiing

Another great pastime and something that most winter enthusiast enjoy is cross country skiing.  And of course there is a great pathway right out side of Manistique call what else the Indian Lake Pathway. It has 3 loops that are1, 3 and 4 and half miles long or for the heart you can do the whole thing which is over 10 mikes of ungroomed trails. As you can see it is a favorite of young and old alike.
